Ho’olei and Surrounding Area

Interested to learn more about Ho’olei and the surrounding area where Maui Breeze Retreat is located?  This blog provides some information that will hopefully enlighten your knowledge of this alluring area on the island of Maui.

Maui Breeze Retreat is a townhome within Ho’olei, a subdivision consisting of 20 six-plex buildings in Wailea, the southwestern part of Maui.  Each building has 3 floorplans.  Maui Breeze Retreat is the Hibiscus floorplan.  With 3,301 square feet of living space, it is the largest Ho’olei floorplan.  Originally constructed in 2007, Ho’olei was named the #1 resort in Hawaii by Conde Nast Traveler 2019 Readers’ Choice Awards.

There are 3 levels within hilly Ho’olei , lower, mid-tier and upper.  Maui Breeze Retreat, located in Building 112, unit 6, is on the upper level.  This provides a stunning view of the Pacific Ocean.  We are just up the hill from the Ho’olei pool and fitness center.

Six 5-star resorts surround Ho’olei.  They include Grand Wailea Resort, Four Seasons Resort, Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort, Fairmont Kea Lani, Hotel Wailea and Marriott Wailea Beach Resort.  With the exception of Hotel Wailea, all of these resorts are on the beach.  Dining, shopping and spa services at each resort is available to the general public.

You may have questions regarding Grand Wailea Resort and how it relates to Ho’olei.  The Grand Wailea Resort is owned by BRE Hotels & Resorts and managed by Hilton Hotels & Resorts.  It is a majestic 780 room resort with a 50,000 square foot spa.  The resort is on Wailea Beach.  Ho’olei, across the street from Grand Wailea Resort, is owned by individuals such as myself.

Some Ho’olei owners live year-round or choose to not rent their townhome.  Of the units that are vacation rentals, most Ho’olei townhomes are managed by Grand Wailea Management Association (GWMA).  Advantages to a GWMA-managed Ho’olei property include access to all Grand Wailea pools, daily house cleaning and free shuttle access to and from Grand Wailea Resort.  Pricing per night is much higher compared to an owner-managed property such as Maui Breeze Retreat.  If you are looking for amenities such as Grand Wailea daily pool access, housekeeping each day and transportation to and from Grand Wailea Resort, then the GWMA model may be your ideal fit.  If you prefer to spend time at the Ho’olei pool area and are not interested in daily housekeeping or transportation to and from Grand Wailea, then an owner-managed model such as Maui Breeze Retreat may better suit your needs.

I am often asked about Grand Wailea privileges and if a booking at Maui Breeze Retreat includes any daily guest passes to the 9 Grand Wailea pools.  The answer is maybe.  I have a membership at Kulana Club, which provides access to the Grand Wailea pools.  This membership includes a very limited supply of unaccompanied (meaning without the owner present) daily guest passes to the Grand Wailea pools each year.  Depending on availability, some daily passes may be acquired for a fee.

If you have any questions or are interested in booking a stay, feel free to contact me at mauibreezeretreat.com.  Mahalo for your interest in the beautiful island of Maui!
